Why study English? You may speak it; we help you unlock it. Master the power, beauty, dangers, and limits of the language by exploring the works of authors from William Shakespeare to Toni Morrison. You’ll read literature that helps you develop empathy and insight. In this major, you'll become an independent and critical thinker, skilled in the ways language can be used to mislead and inspire.
Through this program, you will become immersed in a rich array of textual forms, from the traditional (fiction, poetry, plays, essays, speeches) to the contemporary (visual rhetoric, new media, digital literacy).
